Dr Niranjanan Nirmalananthan
Clinical interests
Dr Nirmalananthan's main specialist interests are in neuromuscular disorders and headache disorders. He runs regional specialist clinics for nerve and muscle disease and headache.

Dr Nirmalananthan is a Consultant Neurologist at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George's University of London.
Dr Nirmalananthan is currently National Clinical Director for Neurology and joint-lead for the Neurology Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) programme at NHS England. He is also Group Clinical Lead for Specialised Services at St George's, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals.
He was previously Clinical Director of the Atkinson Morley Regional Neurosciences Centre at St George's Hospital from 2019-2023, set up and co-chaired the South West London and Surrey Neurosciences Network from 2020-2025, and was Clinical Lead for Neurology & Neurophysiology at St George's from 2016-2019. He was specialty lead for the nationally recognised neuromuscular service and headache service at the Trust from 2012-2024.
Dr Nirmalananthan graduated in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University before studying Medicine at King’s College London. He was awarded a PhD in Neuroscience from the Institute of Neurology, University College London before undertaking higher specialist training in neurology at St George’s Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.
