Neurological Rehab
On this page:
The goal of neurological rehabilitation is to help you achieve the highest level of function and independence as possible, whilst improving your overall quality of life. You will usually be seen every three to four weeks and will be given exercises to complete in between sessions. If your goals are more specific to the home environment, accessing the community or if you would benefit from a multi-disciplinary assessment, you might be better being reviewed by your local Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team (CNRT.) Your GP will be able to refer you to the appropriate service.
We see a wide range of neurological conditions such as:
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Motor Neuron Disease)
- Ataxia and gait disorders
- Bell’s palsy
- Functional neurological disorders
- Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Multiple sclerosis
- Neuromuscular and related diseases
- Parkinson’s disease
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injury
The Physiotherapist will talk to you about your goals for therapy and will complete an assessment to help establish the best course of treatment. This might include:
- Exercises to help your strength, cardiovascular fitness, and balance.
- Exercises and stretches to help maintain your range of motion in your joints and muscles.
- Fully assessing your gait and walking and providing assistive devices to improve this.
- Education regarding management of long-term conditions.
- Education regarding exercise.
- Working closely with other services such as spasticity clinic, pain clinic, orthotics service and gait lab.
