Neurosciences Booking and Referral Centre
On this page:
We have a bookings centre within Neurosciences at St George’s Hospital in order to facilitate a more streamlined and interactive booking experience for GPs and patients requiring the expertise of our service. The booking centre coordinates appointments for the Neurology, Neurosurgery and Chronic Pain services.
The Neurosciences bookings service will always ensure that patient telephone calls are answered promptly and dealt with as quickly as possible. They will also ensure that patients receive clear information regarding the current status of their referral to the department and their appointment booking. If you are contacting the team out-of-hours a voicemail facility is available and the team will respond as quickly as possible.
The team also have access to the clinical teams within the department and will escalate any specific concerns or urgent matters relating to patient care to the clinical team as soon as possible. The bookings service are also equipped to provide responsive support for urgent referrals or queries to the Neurosciences teams.
Opening hours
The booking centre is open from 08:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Friday.
Outside these hours and on bank holidays voicemail messages may be left and will be picked up the next working morning.
Referrals
Referrals are made by other healthcare professionals and GPs. For First Fit, Rapid Access, Tourette Syndrome, and Community Headache clinics pleas refer to the bottom of this section. For Cancer Referrals please click here.
For all other referrals GPs should refer through the e-Referral Service.
Where possible, please address all referrals to ‘Dear Doctor’. This will often reduce the amount of time the patient needs to wait for their appointment. However, if you or your patient have a preference for a particular consultant, please address your referral directly to the named consultant.
To help us and your patient please ensure that your referral letter includes:
- Full GP and practice details
- Complete and correctly spelt patient name and date of birth
- All relevant clinical history
- Any relevant pathology or scan results
- Whether an interpreter is required
- Patient contact telephone numbers
- Patient’s NHS number
Once the referral has been accepted the Neurosciences Booking Service will send a letter to the patient asking them to contact us to make an appointment. The patient will have two weeks to do this. If we hear nothing then they will be discharged back to the GP.
If you have any queries about referrals or appointments, please call the Neurosciences Booking Service.
