The neuropathology service performs expert and fast nervous system and muscle diagnostic procedures by examining central nervous system biopsy tissue from the brain and spinal cord. Biopsies taken by neurosurgeons in theatres, clinics and on the wards are delivered directly to the neuropathology laboratories in Jenner Wing, with results uploaded directly onto electronic patient records.
Neuropathologists work closely with all neurological services, taking part in regular multi-disciplinary meetings. Our neuropathology service offers expertise in a range of neurological specialties allowing fast and decisive diagnosis for a range of conditions including:
- Brain tumours
- Neuro-oncology
- Epilepsy
- Neurodegenerative diseases
- Movement disorders
- Peripheral nerve disorders
The neuropathology service also provides full post-mortem and mortuary services.
The St George’s neuropathology service is one of the leading research and academic neuropathology services in the UK.
