Acute and Internal Medicine
Acute and Internal Medicine brings together specialist teams who diagnose and treat a wide range of serious medical conditions without surgery.
The Care Group provides a range of specialist medical care for inpatient, outpatient and day cases. The Acute Medical Units receive patients requiring urgent assessment and treatment following referral by GPs, ambulance services or the Emergency Department, including the Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC) service.
Patients benefit from access to specialist medical teams working closely together to provide coordinated and timely care, including Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Diabetes, Respiratory Medicine, Rheumatology, and Cardiology. The department is staffed by dedicated multidisciplinary teams, serving residents from Wandsworth, Merton, Lambeth and surrounding areas.
The Care Group has two Internal Medicine wards, Allingham and Caeser Hawkins, and two Acute Medical Units. Overall, we are responsible for 134 beds across the hospital:
- Acute Medical Unit wards
- Richmond Ward (St James’s, Wing Ground Floor)
- Amyand Ward (St James’s Wing, Third Floor)
- Internal medicine wards at St George’s Hospital
- Allingham Ward (St James’s Wing, Third Floor)
- Caesar Hawkins Ward (Lanesborough Wing, Fourth Floor)
