Pain, Inpatient
On this page:
We are a highly specialised team of doctors and nurses whose aim is to ensure that patients at St George’s get the safest and most appropriate pain relief during their admission. This is particularly important for patients with complex pain problems.
Our objective is to reduce the severity of post-operative, post-traumatic and non-surgical acute pain: this enhances recovery, increases patient satisfaction and reduces the risk of persistent pain developing in the future.
We employ a variety of techniques including drug therapies, psychological support and other specialised techniques such as patient controlled analgesia and epidural analgesia (see information leaflets).
In addition to your consultant, we also liaise closely with ward nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists and psychologists, as complex pain problems often require a coordinated approach from all these experts.
