The Radiology Department provides a wide range of diagnostic and interventional imaging services across St George’s Hospital and associated sites. We support both emergency and planned care, including a 24/7 imaging service for urgent and trauma patients.
We work closely with clinical teams across the Trust and referring services to support patient care.
Services we provide:
- Ultrasound (including direct access and specialist imaging)
- CT scanning (including cardiac CT and colonography)
- MRI (including evenings and weekends)
- Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT
- Fluoroscopy
- Interventional Radiology
- General X-ray (walk-in service)

- I can’t attend my appointment

This allows us to offer your slot to another patient. You do not need to call
Please note: New appointments are usually 4–6 weeks later due to high demand. Repeated rescheduling or missed appointments may result in discharge back to your referrer.
- Do I need to call to confirm my appointment?
No. You do not need to call to confirm your appointment. (Some older letters may still say this, but this is no longer required.)
- My appointment is on a Sunday/Bank holiday; is this correct?
Yes. We offer evening, weekend, and Bank Holiday appointments. If your letter states this, please attend as scheduled.
- Can I get my scan results from Radiology?
Radiology staff are not able to discuss your results directly with you. Please contact the doctor or team who referred you, as they are responsible for reviewing and explaining your results.
If you would like a copy of your report or images, you can request this via a Subject Access Request (SAR).
- Do I need an appointment for an X-ray?
No, X-ray is a walk-in service, and you do not need to book an appointment. Please present at X-Ray reception, St James Wing, St George’s Hospital between 8ama
Before attending, please ensure:
- You have a referral form
- It is signed and dated
- It is less than 8 weeks old
- I want a copy of my scan or report
