Ultrasound imaging uses high frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasound examinations do not use ionizing radiation (as used in X-rays). Because ultrasound images are captured in real time, they can show the structure and movement of the body’s internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels
Ultrasound services are provided through a mixture of inpatient and outpatient configured ultrasound rooms.  Services include all non-obstetric / non-breast diagnostic ultrasound (including paediatrics).  Targeted biopsies and fine needle aspirations are performed as an outpatient service.  There is GP direct access to the musculoskeletal injection service.
