St George’s Hospital has one of the leading Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory’s in the United Kingdom.  We have a longstanding history of excellence in the management of coronary and valvular heart disease.  Our reputation for innovation dates back to the work of the pioneering physician, Dr. Aubrey Leatham, who established the first coronary angiography laboratory in the country in the 1950s.

The hospital has 5 state-of-the-art laboratories which provide invasive cardiology services to South West London, Surrey and patients from the rest of the country who require specialist care.

Our services include angioplasty and stenting for angina (chest pain) and heart attacks due to narrowing or blockage of the coronary (heart) arteries.  The hospital is a designated heart attack centre and is among the busiest in the country.  We provide diagnostic and interventional services for the management of complex coronary artery disease.

St George’s is also a leading centre in the UK for transcatheter valve therapies and has pioneered this technology.  We undertake transcatheter valve implantation, balloon valvuloplasty and other structural heart interventions.  Our team has been at the forefront of research and development of these devices.
