Local patients

From GPs in Wandsworth Primary Care Trust and Sutton and Merton Primary Care Trust who normally refer patients to St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (SW11, SW12, SW17, SW18, SW19, SW20 and CR4).

Medical patients

You can refer patients directly to the medical on-call team by speaking to the medical nurse practitioner via the hospital’s switchboard on 020 8672 1255 and requesting bleep 7915. The patient should be advised to come immediately to the Emergency Department, with a referral letter addressed to the medical team On-call. In the Emergency Department the patient will be triaged and the medical team informed of his/her arrival. If stable, the patient will be assessed in the rapid assessment, area 3rd floor, St James wing.

Frailty SDEC

Our Frailty SDEC team operates between the hours of 8.00am – 6.00pm, Monday to Friday.  The following criteria are used to see patients at the front door: Clinical Frailty Score (CFS) of 5 and above, age 65 years+ and frailty syndrome as the admission criteria to the service.  You can refer patients directly by calling 0208 725 3719 or 0208 725 3645 or via the hospital’s switchboard on 020 8672 1255 and requesting bleep 7172.

Surgical patients

Please refer directly to the surgical registrar via switchboard, by calling 0208 672 1255. The patient should be sent to the Emergency Department where they will be assessed. If clinically appropriate they will be transferred to the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU). The direct number for this unit is 0208 725 2751. The SAU is based on Vernon Ward on the 4th Floor of St James’ Wing.

Please call the central switchboard on 0208 672 1255 and ask for the on-call registrar of the relevant specialty to be bleeped.

Advice on admissions

The Bed Management Team has responsibility for placing all admissions within the Trust. The team offers a service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Should you have any queries about emergency admissions please call 0208 672 1255 and ask for bleep 6007.
