Referral criteria

Internal referral criteria (St George’s Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician only):

  • Internal referrals only accepted from a neurodevelopmental paediatrician at St George’s NHS Foundation Trust
  • Child has a GP in Wandsworth
  • Child is aged under 8 years old
  • The child has had a developmental assessment and it is clinically decided that further exploration of their social communication and interaction differences is needed
  • Consent form signed and must be submitted with referral

External referral criteria (referral from all other professionals):

  • Referrals only accepted from professionals involved with child (school SENCO, GP, Health Visitor & NHS Therapists, private paediatricians)
  • Child has a GP in Wandsworth
  • Child is aged:
    • 0 up to their 8thbirthday who has had a paediatric neurodevelopmental assessment by a paediatric community or neurodevelopmental doctor (e.g. different borough)
    • 5 years to their 8thbirthday (exclude children with unexplored developmental difficulties/delay and/or current therapy input)
  • Child is presenting with social communication and interaction differences
  • The following forms must be completed and submitted with the referral:

Re-referral criteria

The re-referral criteria includes the following categories:

  • Children referred previously, whose parents/school did not return forms in time (these must be completed before the re-referral is completed)
  • Children who were referred, considered at Triage and discharged, but have a cause to be re-referred.
  • Children who were referred, had assessment and did not meet the threshold for diagnosis, but have a cause to be re-referred.
