Dr Robin Ray graduated from Oxford University and Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine, London. He was received a BHF scholar award and a BHF clinical PhD studentship and completed a PhD at King’s College Hospital, London in endothelial function, blood pressure and heart failure. He trained on the South East London Cardiology rotation and completed a cardiac imaging fellowship at the Brompton Hospital. He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist in January 2015 at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London. He was appointed Head of Education in September 2015.

Clinical Interests: General Cardiology, Heart failure and Cardiac Imaging (Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Echocardiography).  Dr Ray was one of three consultants who developed and implemented the first national Acute Heart Failure Unit in the UK which opened in 2016. This provides specialist nursing, therapist and cardiology care to patients with heart failure.

Research/Education Interests: Dr Ray has ongoing research interests in acute heart failure and iron deficiency anaemia and is the Principal investigator on a number of acute heart failure trials. He is also an Associate Editor of the European Cardiology Review journal.

Dr Ray is passionate about education and actively teaches at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. He was appointed as a member on the Educational committee on the European Heart Failure association in 2017. Dr Ray has obtained an HEE (Health Education England) grant to introduce person-centred care to the heart failure unit at St George’s to improve patient experience and provide a centre of excellence to train heart failure nurses and fellows. He has developed a number of cardiology simulation courses and MRCP PACES courses for the training of junior doctors.
