Professional profile
Mr Iorga is the Lead Clinician for the regional Neurovascular Service based at St George’s. Committed to advancing vascular neurosurgery, he plays a key leadership role in establishing a nationally recognised cerebral bypass service to improve the management of patients with complex intracranial vascular conditions.
Mr Iorga qualified from the University of Bucharest in 2004 before obtaining his MD in 2005. He completed his neurosurgical training at Imperial College London and obtained Fellowship of the European Board of Neurological Surgery (FEBNS) in 2018 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Surgical Neurology (FRCS SN) in 2019.
He completed post-CCT fellowships in Skull Base Surgery, Vascular Neurosurgery and Complex Spine Surgery in London and Oxford before being appointed Consultant Neurosurgeon at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2020.
Mr Iorga has specialist interests in skull base surgery, neurovascular surgery and spinal surgery. He has extensive experience in the management of complex neurosurgical conditions including brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), brain tumours, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm and spinal disorders. He has expertise in the management of meningiomas and complex skull base tumours.
Mr Iorga is actively involved in neurosurgical education and research. He directs the St George’s Skull Base/Vascular Fellowship Programme in Neurosurgery and serves as an examiner for the Intercollegiate Board in Neurosurgery. He regularly presents at national and international meetings and is committed to advancing neurosurgical training, innovation and collaborative research.
Throughout his career, Mr Iorga has maintained a strong commitment to quality improvement and patient outcomes. He actively participates in national audit programmes including the National Neurosurgical Audit Programme, British Spine Registry and National Shunt Registry.
He is a member of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons, the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
