Mr Ian Hunt has been a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at St. George’s Hospital and Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Royal Marsden Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St. George’s Medical School, University of London since 2009.
He is actively involved in clinical research, training and education at undergraduate and postgraduate level and have published over 190 papers in peer-reviewed journals, written reviews and book chapters and has edited several books. He is currently deputy Training Program Director in Cardiothoracic Surgery (thoracic surgery) for London.
He has sat on several advisory boards and was a member of the Thoracic Surgery Clinical Reference Group (CRG) advising on national thoracic surgery commissioning from 2014-2017.
Along with a broad interest in thoracic surgery conditions including lung cancer, secondary cancers, mediastinal and pleural conditions he has a particular interest in chest wall problems. He is the current thoracic trauma lead and has worked since 2012 with the Pan London Major Trauma system and SW London and Surrey trauma network regarding services for managing thoracic trauma across London and the Southeast. He has represented the society of cardiothoracic surgeons (SCTS) in the recent review of Pectus surgery commissioning from 2014-2022 and is currently involved in several relevant projects with NHS England.
