Professional profile
Dr Cleave Gass is a consultant anaesthetist with a special interest in obstetric anaesthesia, his professional memberships include the BMA, Association of Anaesthetists and Obstetric Anaesthetists Association (OAA). He qualified from the University of Cape Town in 1991 and has lived in the UK since 1993, completing his FRCA in 1998 and a Masters in Medical Ethics and Law at the University of Glasgow in 2000, awarded upon completing a dissertation on “Consent issues in Labour”. His current roles are as a Deputy Post Graduate Dean for South London and an Educational Monitoring Associate for the GMC.
He has a strong educational background; previous roles include Head of School for Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine in London and the Associate Medical Director of the St George’s NHS University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with responsibility for education. He has also worked as the Director of Medical Education and College Tutor for anaesthesia at St George's Hospital. He was an Examiner for the Royal College of Anaesthetists for 12 years and a case adjudicator for the National Clinical Advisory Service.
