How MyCare works with the NHS App

How MyCare works with the NHS App

You can view your hospital appointments using MyCare and the NHS App.

Both are secure and free to use. However, they show different types of information.

MyCare

MyCare gives you the most complete view of your hospital information because it connects directly to our electronic patient record system.

With MyCare, you can:

  • View upcoming appointments
  • Read appointment letters
  • Receive messages directly from your consultant or care team
  • Complete questionnaires before you come to hospital (e.g. pre-operation forms)
  • View test results as soon as they are ready*
  • Access clinic letters and documents
  •  See your known allergies
  • View personalised health information and resources
  • Complete questionnaires before your hospital visit (for example, pre-operation forms).

*Some sensitive or complex results will not appear online. Your care team will discuss these with you directly.

NHS App

The NHS App provides a simpler view of your hospital appointments.

With the NHS App, you can:

  • View some upcoming appointments
  • Read appointment letters
  • See some test results (where supported)

How MyCare and the NHS App work together

  • MyCare holds the full hospital record information available to you.
  • Appointment and letter information from MyCare is shared with the NHS App.
  • The NHS App displays a smaller selection of this information and less features such as the option to go paperless.
  • The NHS App sends notifications within the app.
  • MyCare sends text message (SMS) alerts.

If you want the most complete information about your hospital care, MyCare is recommended.

Which one should I use?

You can use either system.

  • Use MyCare for the most complete view of your hospital care.
  • Use the NHS App if you prefer quick access and already use it for other NHS services.

Both are secure and can be accessed on mobile devices or desktop computers.
