Marking their Golden Wedding Anniversary in style, Alan and Kay Pfeiffer had more than their 50 years of marriage to celebrate this summer. In recent years both Alan and Kay have battled the fight against cancer, but together have made full recoveries thanks to the care and support of each other and the treatment received at St George’s Hospital, Tooting.

Wed on 15th August 1959 at St Faiths Church in Wandsworth, the happy couple have had their fair share of ups and downs over the years, however they have commendably made it through together. In 2005 Kay was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time, which sadly resulted in her having to undergo a mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiology at St George’s. Alan supported her through the traumatic illness being Kay’s pillar of strength. However, during her treatment in 2007 Alan was also diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. As Kay was thankfully on the road to recovery the tables turned, and she became Alan’s rock to get through.

Together, and thanks to St George’s both husband and wife have made a full recovery in time to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this year. The jubilant couple decided to ask their family and friends to donate to St George’s Hospital Charity, for the benefit of the Oncology Department rather than giving gifts.

“We’ve got the best present ever.” Says Kay “We’re both back to our health and couldn’t ask for anything more”.

A fantastic £870 was raised for the benefit of patients and staff at St George’s, and has been used to purchase a special pump to help deliver a specific chemotherapy drug.
