First up at 8pm on ITV1 is This Time Next Year, presented by Davina McCall, which showcases the story of one of our renal transplant patients, Karen Lock.

Karen was born with polycystic kidney disease which causes cysts grow on her kidneys and therefore reduces their function, which has led to her requiring a kidney transplant. Her husband, Terry, is tested to see if he can become a live organ donor for his wife – watch to find out if he’s a match!

Tonight’s episode shows Karen discussing her condition and her surgery as well as interviews with our clinical team including Consultant Transplant Surgeon, Mr Mohamed Morsy.

24 Hours in A&E, Channel 4, 9pm

Next up, on Channel 4 is the last episode of the current seventeenth series of 24 Hours in A&E at 9pm.

Tonight’s episode – A Road Less Travelled – examines how individuals adapt and survive in the face of adversity.

Four year old Jeremy, who has a number of chronic conditions including epilepsy and microcephaly, is seen in our Paediatric Emergency Department with his parents as he is struggling to breathe. As doctors work to stabilise his condition, Jeremy’s father discusses about how their lives changed when they were given his diagnosis shortly after birth.

Meanwhile, 60 year old Paul is rushed to Resus after colliding with a van. Doctors are concerned he may have serious injuries to his pelvis and spine. As the team plan his treatment, we hear from Paul how in his own hour of need, the unexpected kindness of a friend got his life back on track and changed his outlook forever.

Keith, one of our longest serving medical assistants at St George’s, talks about how a life changing car accident convinced him to pursue a career in healthcare.
