A group of St George’s Hospital staff returned to GJ’s in Colliers Wood last week for a sell-out gig in aid of St George’s Hospital Charity.

The Crazeefass duo – Shola Adegoroye, a general manager and Alan Thorne, a director – first took to the stage at GJs in January 2008, along with Kirk Jones, a finance officer, and his Jukebox. Their return last Friday night saw them with special guests Ian Frost an IT manager, Osian Powell, a general manager and Richard Billington, a project manager for an evening of live music and vinyl rocksteady beats.

Funds raised from the Gig will go towards the refurbishment of the breastfeeding room on Gwillim Ward. Breastfeeding in the first few days of their baby’s life is an important and often anxious time for mothers. Privacy and a relaxed, comfortable environment are a top priority in learning how to do this. Gwillim Ward provides a separate breastfeeding room away from the ward, in which new mothers can learn to feed their babies away from disturbance (particularly at night), in a more private relaxed area. The refurbishment will provide additional sofas, a water dispenser, TV/DVD players to demonstrate feeding techniques and the whole area will be given a new coat of paint!

The Gig raised over 1000 pounds in ticket sales and 145.50 pounds from a raffle on the night. Together with proceeds from the Women’s 5k Challenge in Hyde Park on Sunday, the refurbishment is all set to go ahead!
