A new associate non-executive director has been appointed to the Board of St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Moira Nangle is an Organisation Development consultant who has qualifications in teaching, training, coaching, counselling, person-centred psychotherapy and an MSc in Organisation Development. She has held senior Organisation Development roles in both the private and not-for-profit sectors, and was most recently Director of Organisation Development at Virgin Atlantic Airways. In this role she led HR, Resourcing and Learning & Development, and facilitated strategic planning sessions for the airline, as well as designing a number of customer service interventions. She now has her own Organistaion Development Consultancy, and still works within the Virgin Group.

Moira said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with St George’s at such an exciting time. The concept of patient-centred care is dear to my heart and I look forward to putting my experience and knowledge to use for an organization that I admire.”

Trust Chairman, Naaz Coker, said: “We are delighted to welcome Moira on to the Trust Board. Her experience in organisational development and understanding of safety initiatives in the airline industry will add enormously to our focus and our work on patient safety initiatives and will prove an asset as we move towards Foundation Trust status.”

Moira has been appointed for a four-year term from 15 April 2009 and will receive remuneration of £6,005 a year.

The appointment has been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice. As will full non-executive appointments, Moira’s appointment has been made on merit and political activity played no part in the selection process. Moira has declared she is not politically active and does not currently hold any Ministerial appointments.

St George’s is a large teaching hospital based in Tooting, South West London. The Trust is one of only a few in the country to provide major trauma services in cardiac, neuro and orthopaedic surgery on the one site. The Trust also provides a wide range of acute services to the residents of the London Borough of Wandsworth and surrounding areas.
