Our strategy 2019-2024

Our strategy 2019-2024

On 23 April 2019, we published  our new five year strategy.

The new strategy – Delivering outstanding care, every time (2019-2024) – is designed to give everyone connected with St George’s clarity about our aims and ambitions for the future.

The new strategy will drive decision-making across our two main sites at St George’s Hospital in Tooting; Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton; plus services we run in the community.

Four key priorities

Our new strategy is based on four key priorities;

Strong foundations: An organisation with strong foundations that provides outstanding care, every time

Excellent local services: A provider of excellent local services for the people of Wandsworth and Merton

Closer collaboration: A partner in delivering joined up, sustainable health services across south west London

Leading specialist healthcare: A provider of leading specialist services for the people of south west London, Surrey, Sussex and beyond

What does this mean for the services we run?

We will continue to provide and improve the many different hospital services local people have come to depend – such as maternity and emergency care, for example.

St George’s will also still be there for everybody who needs the services our brilliant staff provide – from babies and children all the way through to older people, who regularly access services at both St George’s and Queen Mary’s.

We have decided , however, to also prioritise and channel investment into the development of our cancer, children’s, neurosciences, and major trauma services.

We will also support those teams central to delivery of these services, in particular diagnostics (such as x-ray and scanning) and critical care services for the most seriously unwell.

Jacqueline Totterdell, Chief Executive of St George’s, said:

“Our new strategy has been shaped by patients, local people, and our staff – with over 500 people attending 26 engagement events over the past nine months.

“Your support is a vital part of our success, and your desire for us to succeed – and for St George’s to thrive – has come through loud and clear.”

“The end result is a strategy that will serve us well over the next five years, and get us closer to delivering outstanding care, every time for our patients, staff, and the communities we serve.”
