LGBTQ+ Inclusion
At St George’s Hospital we believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
This inclusion statement has been developed in partnership with our LGBTQ+ staff network and, while it applies to all LGBTQ+ people, it particularly aims to recognise and address the issues transgender and non-binary people face. We are committed to being an inclusive organisation where all transgender staff, patients and visitors feel welcome, safe and respected.
We recognise the unique challenges, prejudice and discrimination LGBTQ+ people face, including equitable access to healthcare, and the impact this has on patients, staff and the communities we serve. We will therefore continue to challenge and work to eliminate all forms of discrimination, including transphobia, against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all associated queer (LGBTQ+) staff, patients and visitors.
We’re developing guidance across St George’s, Epsom and St Helier hospitals or gesh on supporting trans and non-binary patients and staff, and are taking positive action to update our Trust policies and procedures to be more inclusive of LGBTQ+ people. To support this, we’ll be mandating our LGBTQ+ Awareness e-learning which is was developed alongside our staff network in 2022. This Trust-wide education and training offer w is designed to embed inclusive behaviour and practices into the fabric of our organisation.
