Professional profile
Mr Philip Mitchell was educated at Epsom College and St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. His surgical training took place on the South West Thames Training Scheme. During the five years of training prior to his fellowship Mr Mitchell set up and ran what is now the largest database world-wide of revision hip procedures performed using an extensively Hydroxyapatite coated implant. This work has led to several international presentations, including presentations in North America and in New Zealand.
Mr Mitchell spent a year on fellowship in Vancouver where he wrote several Instructional Course Lectures for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He was involved in the setting up of the Academy On-line textbook and wrote original papers in several areas of Revision Surgery.
At St George's Mr Mitchell offers a tertiary referral service for complex hip and knee procedures, particularly management of the infected hip and knee replacement, management of significant bone loss in revision surgery and periprosthetic fractures.
