Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon


Mr Omar Khan is a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Weight-loss (Bariatric) Surgery.

He studied at the University of Cambridge, and undertook his clinical training in Nottingham and Southampton (where he completed a PhD in obesity and cardiovascular disease) before being appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery at St Georges Hospital, London. He has an expertise in minimally-invasive (or keyhole surgery) including “scarless” surgery and has performed over 1,000 keyhole procedures.

His clinical interests include:

  • Primary bariatric surgery (Gastric sleeve, Gastric bypass and band)
  • Revisional weight loss surgery
  • Anti-reflux surgery (including LINX)
  • Gallstones and gallbladder surgery
  • Hernia repair surgery

Mr Khan is on the National Bariatric Registry Committee (the body responsible for publishing consultant outcomes in bariatric surgery).

He has an active interest in research and is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at St Georges Medical School. He has published over 160 articles on all aspects of surgery and his weight-loss research has been published in the Lancet and was featured in national and international press.
