Ms Fay Greenway
Clinical interests
Fay Greenway is a consultant neurosurgeon specialising in brain and spine neurotrauma, as well as degenerative spine conditions and malignancy of the spine.
Her subspecialty interests include cranial and spinal trauma, and cranial reconstruction techniques, spinal tumours, and degenerative spinal conditions (utilising both instrumented and non-instrumented techniques).
She has published work in peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters. She is principal investigator for various research trials, and is well established in the neurotrauma field internationally. She has hosted international conferences and chaired sessions at international meetings including SBNS (Society of British Neurological Surgeons) and INTS (International NeuroTrauma Society).
Within the Department of Neurosurgery she is Lead for Neurotrauma, working with colleagues across the Trust, reviewing and formulating new clinical pathways to optimise patient care. She is part of St George’s dedicated Traumatic Brain Injury team, a multidisciplinary team covering all aspects of the care of the head injured patient. She is Clinical Governance Lead for Neurosurgery. She is an educational supervisor for junior doctors and neurosurgical trainees, and is actively involved in both under- and post-graduate training affiliated with St George’s University London (across all healthcare professions).
Professional profile
Fay read Human Genetics as an undergraduate at Leeds University, graduating in 2000, following which she worked for the Department of Health and later in industry. She went on to study medicine, graduating from Leicester-Warwick Medical School in 2007.
Having completed foundation doctor training in London, she went on to complete general surgical training in the South East, including her first post in neurosurgery. She was ranked top in national selection for the neurosurgical training programme and went on to complete neurosurgical training in the South Thames London rotation (St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Kings College Hospital NHS Trust, and Hurstwood Park). Having passed the FRCS examination in Surgical Neurology (FRCS SN), she became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2019.
She has completed a post-certification fellowship in neuro-oncological surgery, as well as a 6 month fellowship in pituitary surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, before taking up her role as consultant neurosurgeon at St George’s in February 2023.
Outside of work, Miss Greenway enjoys spending time outdoors, and with her family.
She is a member of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS) and the British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS).
Feedback from Miss Greenway’s patients is that she is an empathic doctor who always takes time to listen to her patient’s concerns and explain things in a way every individual can understand.
