Mr Gary Maytham
Clinical interests
Mr Maytham is a consultant vascular surgeon at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. His specialist interests include the open and endovascular management of peripheral arterial disease, infra-renal aortic aneurysmal disease and superficial venous conditions, as well as vascular and torso trauma. In addition, he has significant experience in the management of central venous stenosis and complex angio-access for renal dialysis.
Professional profile
Mr Maytham qualified in Southern Africa in 1996 and later obtained an MPhil at Sheffield University in 2005 for his vascular research on the management of chronic moderate ischaemia. He undertook vascular surgery training in the South West Thames region, as well as undertaking trauma fellowships both at the Royal London Hospital and internationally. He was appointed as an honorary vascular consultant at St George’s Vascular Institute in 2012, whilst still serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He resigned from the British Army in 2017 to take up a substantive consultancy post at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is the clinical lead for Vascular Trauma at the Major Trauma Centre and currently leads quality improvement programs on the management of patients requiring major amputation and for those requiring treatment for symptomatic varicose veins.
