Professional profile
Miss Joy Odili is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon specialising in the advanced management of skin cancer. She works as a substantive consultant at St George's Hospital, London and provides plastic surgery services at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton. She is the current Skin Cancer Specialty Lead.
She completed her medical school training at Glasgow University in 1999. As part of her postgraduate training, she conducted 2 years of research looking at the detection and treatment of malignant melanoma. She was awarded a Hunterian Professorship for her research in 2002, by the Royal College of Surgeons. Miss Odili trained in a number of London's prestigious plastic surgery units, and has been a consultant at St George's Hospital since 2009.
Miss Odili chairs the specialist multi-disciplinary team meetings for skin cancer. The team is composed of expert plastic surgeons, dermatologists, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nurse practitioners, as well as other allied health professionals. The melanoma unit at St Georges Hospital is involved with a number of national and international clinical trials. The Melanoma Unit is also part of the INSPect (International Network for Sharing Practices in electrochemotherapy) working group. The unit offers treatments for cancer in the skin of any origin and treats a large number of national and international patients. She has authored numerous papers and presented original work at national and international meetings.
Miss Odili is highly involved in undergraduate and post graduate education. She is involved in training and recruitment of resident doctors. She is also a registered mentor for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
