Clinical Interests

Dr Honap is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist at St George’s Hospital, London. He manages the full spectrum of luminal gastrointestinal disorders in his clinical practice, with a particular focus on the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. His interests include emerging therapies and clinical trials, and he works closely with paediatric colleagues to co-run the paediatric-to-adult IBD transition service for adolescents. His expertise extends to endoscopic disease assessment and dysplasia surveillance, and he is fully accredited by the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) in both diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Professional Profile

Dr Honap graduated with honours from Liverpool Medical School and subsequently completed a Masters in Research in Translational Medicine with distinction. He undertook his early postgraduate training in Birmingham before moving to London to complete higher specialist training in gastroenterology.

During this time, he completed an advanced clinical and research fellowship with Prof. Irving at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals (London), where his doctoral research focused on the use of JAK inhibitors in the treatment of IBD. Prior to his consultant appointment at St George’s Hospital, he completed a research fellowship with Prof. Peyrin Biroulet at Nancy University Hospital (France), an internationally recognised IBD Centre of Excellence.

Dr Honap remains actively engaged in clinical research and is committed to advancing standards of care in gastroenterology. He serves as both principal investigator and sub-investigator on a number of commercial and investigator-led clinical trials at St George’s. He has a broad collaborative network and continues to publish widely in high-impact factor journals. He is regularly invited to speak at national and international meetings, and he holds peer review and editorial board roles for leading journals in the field.
