Dr Richard Chavasse
Clinical interests
Dr Chavasse is a specialist in paediatric respiratory medicine. This includes asthma and recurrent viral wheeze, chronic cough, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, sleep disordered breathing, chronic lung disease of prematurity and congenital thoracic malformations.
He also holds joint clinics with ENT neonatology and neurodevelopmental paediatrics.
Professional profile
Dr Chavasse qualified in 1990 from the University of Southampton and earned his MD from the University of London in 2003 entitled 'The assessment and treatment of wheeze in early life'.
He trained in paediatrics in Brighton King's College and Royal Brompton Hospitals. He also undertook a fellowship in neonatology at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. In 2010 he was appointed a consultant respiratory paediatrician at St George's Hospital.
Since 2003 Dr Chavasse has also worked in the capacity of honorary consultant in paediatric respiratory medicine at the Royal Brompton Hospital and until 2010 was a consultant in respiratory and general paediatrics at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, Carshalton.
He is also a member of the BTS/SIGN asthma guideline working group for the management of acute asthma in children.
