Dr Peter Riley
Clinical interests
Dr Peter Riley is a Consultant Medical Microbiologist. He is a general microbiologist but also has a special interest in virology. Since October 2015 he has been the Clinical Lead for Infection Prevention and Control at the Trust.
Professional profile
Dr Riley qualified with an MBBS from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in 1986. He undertook his postgraduate training from 1988 to 1995 in the departments of Medical Microbiology and Virology at St Thomas' Hospital, London and the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Sydney, Australia. He was awarded an MD from the University of London in 1993.
In 1995 he took up the post of lecturer in Medical Microbiology and clinical specialist at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He subsequently returned to the UK and in 1997 and was appointed Consultant Medical Microbiologist and Infection Prevention and Control Lead at Mayday University Hospital Croydon before moving to St George's Hospital in 2002.
