Clinical interests
Dr Kennea is a consultant neonatalogist at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has a clinical interest in neonatal brain injury, brain imaging, neonatal infection and the prevention of hospital acquired infection in neonatal units.
Professional profile
Dr Kennea qualified from Cambridge University in 1991 and has trained in several major neonatal centres in the UK. He worked at Imperial College, London in neonatal research posts, studying neonatal brain injury and it's relation to infection. In 2001 he obtained a Wellcome Trust Fellowship researching brain cell development.
Dr Kennea was appointed a consultant at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2005. He continued his research interest in neonatal infection and newborn brain injury, from his research he has published data relating to neonatal infection control and continues to collaborate with the neonatal research group at Imperial College evaluating brain imaging in the neonatal population.
Dr Kennea was selected as one of the London Deanery leadership champions, and runs the in-house trainee leadership development course. He has recently gained funding to involve trainees in specific patient-safety initiatives.
