Dr Aodhan Breathnach
Clinical interests
Dr Breathnach is a consultant specialising in medical microbiology. He is clinical director for South West London Pathology (SWLP). His clinical interests include bacteraemia, endocarditis, antimicrobial stewardship and outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy.
He has been a RCPath examiner since 2012.
He is one of the training leads for the Infection training rotation. (Combined Microbiology and Infectious Diseases)
He also holds an interest in molecular epidemiology and infection control and clinical ethics.
Professional profile
Dr Breathnach qualified from Trinity College, Dublin in 1987 and trained in medical microbiology in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and St Thomas' Hospital, London. He has been a consultant at St George's since 1998.
Dr Breathnach was awarded his MD in 2008 on the topic of the molecular epidemiology of giardiasis. He was formerly the clinical lead for microbiology and infection control doctor for the Trust.
Since 2010 he has been the training programme director for the South West Thames Microbiology Training Programme and a member of St George's clinical ethics committee.
