Marie-Noelle Orzel is to take up the post of Improvement Director at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

She will take up her new role at St George’s on an interim basis from 13 February 2017.

As Improvement Director, Marie-Noelle will help St George’s in delivering improvements to the quality and safety of services the Trust provides for patients.

The Trust was rated Inadequate by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in November 2016 following an inspection in June. The Trust was subsequently placed in special measures by NHS Improvement for the quality of services it provides.

Marie-Noelle is a nurse by background, and has previously worked as Improvement Director at North Cumbria University Hospitals and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Marie-Noelle has also held Director of Nursing posts at both Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust and North Bristol NHS Trust, where she subsequently served as Chief Executive.

She said: “I am pleased to be joining St George’s, and look forward to working with the Trust Board and staff to help drive forward the significant improvement work already started.”

Sir David Henshaw, Chair of St George’s, said: “I am pleased to welcome Marie-Noelle to the Trust. Her experience will help us on the improvement journey we have started, and I look forward to working with her.”

Steve Russell, London regional director at NHS Improvement, said: “Marie-Noelle is an experienced clinician and leader with a track record of supporting complex health organisations to improve. I am confident she will work well with the leadership team and staff throughout St George’s to continue their progress in making improvements for patients and their families.”

Marie-Noelle has been appointed as Improvement Director by NHS Improvement to work with the existing Trust Board at St George’s, which is otherwise unchanged.
