Cardiac team wins prestigious BMJ Award
Congratulations to the cardiac team for winning the Clinical Leadership Team of the Year award for the management of aortic aneurysm and aortic valve disease.
The Clinical Leadership Team of the Year category ‘recognises a team that exemplifies the qualities of clinical leadership, requiring ideas and enthusiasm and often by doing things differently’.
We run one of the largest aortic surgery services in the country at St George’s, with patients cared for by a multi-disciplinary team – including cardiac surgeons, anaesthetists, physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and a wide range of other healthcare professionals – and so this award recognises all their input in the management of aortic aneurysm.
The team has concentrated on better and earlier diagnosis with relevant research, which has had an impact on international guidelines and improved peri-operative specialised anaesthetic care, surgical techniques and post-operative recovery through a consistent team approach, education of staff and high volume surgery to produce world class outcomes.
The team’s ethos is ‘putting our patients and their families at the HEART of everything we do.’
Congratulations team!
