SuMMiT course for Educational Supervisors

SuMMiT 2026

We are pleased to announce four new dates for SuMMiT 2026 – Supervision, Measurement and Mentorship in Training, our face-to-face development course for clinical and educational supervisors, as well as senior trainees preparing for consultant roles.

A refreshed SuMMiT for 2026

We have recently revamped the SuMMiT programme, refreshing the content and approach to make the day even more practical, interactive and relevant to the challenges supervisors encounter in everyday practice.

SuMMiT covers the key areas within the GMC professional development framework for trainers and provides practical tools, discussion and shared learning to support you in your supervisory role.

What will the day cover?

Getting to the Summit – Getting the Basics Right as a Supervisor

  • Understanding your role and the GMC framework
  • Effectively assessing trainee performance
  • Making the most of supervision and faculty meetings
  • Giving effective feedback
  • Running effective inductions

Beyond the Summit – Supervising When Challenges Arise

  • Handling difficult conversations
  • Supporting trainees experiencing difficulty
  • Supervising trainees returning to work
  • Sharing approaches and learning from supervisory scenarios

 New course dates

All sessions will take place 09:30–16:30 at the Education Centre, St George’s Hospital.

Have you attended SuMMiT or ASET before?

If you have previously completed SuMMiT/ASET and are mainly looking for an update on a particular aspect of supervision, you may not need to attend the full-day SuMMiT course again.

Our Medical Education Academy Learning Lunch / Supervisor Series offers shorter, focused sessions throughout the year on individual areas of educational supervision and may be a more suitable option for your learning needs. Please look out for upcoming Learning Lunch sessions advertised by PGME.

 How to register

To secure your place on SuMMiT, please email PGME@stgeorges.nhs.uk with your preferred course date.

We look forward to welcoming you to the refreshed SuMMiT 2026 programme.
