Paediatric dentistry
On this page:
The paediatric dentistry team at St Georges provides a comprehensive service to improve the oral health care of infants, children and adolescents through appropriate preventive, educational and treatment services. A large number of children are treated who have facial and dental anomalies, have been involved in dento alveolar trauma, have varying special needs and who are fearful or resistant to care by general dental practitioners. We also treat young patients with multidisciplinary treatment needs involving other teams eg hypodontia, orthodondic/paediatric and paediatric restorative oral medicine, surgical interventions e.g. impacted canines, supernumeraries, frenectomies, infraoccluded teeth caries and behaviour management.
The Department has two surgeries which are fully equipped to give sedation. Services are provided on an out-patient, day patient and, occasionally, in-patient basis for young people across south west London and surrounding areas.
Children requiring surgery under general anaesthesia are mainly treated as day cases, allowing them to return home promptly.
The Department also provides an advisory service for referred patients and also a limited treatment service for complex dental problems.
