Mr Pieter le Roux
Clinical interests
Mr le Roux is a consultant urologist specialising in laparoscopic, open and robotic renal surgery. His other clinical interests include oncology, reconstructive surgery and surgery for benign prostate disease.
Professional profile
Mr le Roux studied medicine at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, and completed his basic surgical training in the UK. he trained in Urology at Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town and was appointed consultant urologist and senior lecturer to Tygerberg Hospital and Stellenbosch University Medical School in 2000. His training in laparoscopic urology included attachments in Cleveland and Basingstoke. He was appointed as consultant urological surgeon at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust in 2002 and joined St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2008. He set up the laparoscopic urology unit at Epsom and St Helier where he continues to perform a large number of renal laparoscopy cases each year.
At St George's he and Mr Chris Anderson provide a comprehensive renal surgery service including laparoscopic, open and robotic assisted renal surgery. Mr le Roux personally performed 98 major renal operations in 2010.
Mr le Roux's research towards his MSc degree involved the use of collagen matrix grafts in endoscopic urethral reconstruction. He is a senior lecturer and examiner at St George's, University of London. He lectures regularly on laparoscopic training courses in the UK, Europe and South Africa.
