Professional profile

Isaac is a Consultatnt in Obstetrics and Gynaceology, and lead clinician for the Myoma Service and Recurrent Miscarriage. He was instrumental in establishing the first and still one of the few cutting-edge dedicated centres for research and treatment of fibroid disease, and was lead author in a recent major national trial on myomectomy versus uterine artery embolization published in the New England Journal of Medicine. He has published further in the same journal, and has more than 250 publications in peer review journals including Nature, the BMJ, the Lancet, NEJM, BJOG, Circulation and Hypertension. He has published 4 books and numerous chapters, letters and reviews.

His research has been funded by organisations that include the MRC, the BHF, the Wellcome Trust and the NIHR.

His current research focuses on fibroid disease, gynaecological surgical techniques; and collaborates fruitfully with the Hypertension Unit on Pre-eclampsia, and the Psychology Department on smoking cessation in pregnancy. International collaborations (Dr Hema Divakar, Bengaluru) includes iron deficiency / gestational diabetes / hyperhomocystinaemia in reproductive health / Myoinositols in he prevention of GDM.

He was awarded a personal Chair in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (University of London) in 2012.
