Professional profile
Mr Amitabh Thacoor is a board-certified Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with a special interest in all aspects of the diagnosis, surgical management and reconstruction following skin cancer, including melanoma, as well as general plastic surgery. He works as a substantive Consultant at St George’s Hospital and also provides plastic surgery services at The Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton.
Mr Thacoor undertook all his general and plastic surgical training in London on the prestigious Pan-Thames rotation at several high-volume centres of excellence including Guys and St Thomas' Hospitals, Great Ormond Street Hospital and St Andrew's Centre for Plastic Surgery amongst others before becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and joining the GMC Specialist Register. Mr Thacoor subsequently completed a competitive BAAPS aesthetic surgery fellowship at Weymouth Street Hospital in central London, focusing on facial cosmetic surgery.
Mr Thacoor has a keen interest in teaching and research, having published over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored several textbook chapters. He was awarded the prestigious Martin Kelly Prize from the Royal Society of Medicine in 2017 for work on cosmetic surgery tourism and targeted muscle reinnervation. He also sits on the Resident Advisory Board Committee for the prestigious Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS) Journal.
