Mr Johnston qualified from Trinity Hall, Cambridge and Guy's Hospital, London in 1983 MA MB BChir.
He trained in neurosurgery at the Atkinson Morley Hospital and the National Hospital, Queen Square.
He was awarded the Fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1987
He has an interest in simple and complex spinal surgery and vascular neurosurgery.
He is an active member of the Brain Intervention Group (BIG) which meets annually to discuss complex vascular cases with neuroradiologists.
He runs an annual course in Neurological Anatomy at St George's Hospital medical school.
