Last year physiotherapists Alison Kelly and Helen Ricketts from the Oncology and Haematology team, and clinical nurse specialist Diane O’Connell, teamed up to start a pilot rehabilitation group with an educational component. It’s aimed at men with metastatic prostate cancer to help improve function, mobility and the management of their cancer related symptoms.

The team piloted the project which showed significant improvements in patients’ physical, social and emotional wellbeing as well as gait speed. They showcased the methodology and results through a poster.

The team entered the poster to be displayed at the Prostate Cancer UK summit held by Janssen Saturday February 27th which was successfully selected. The Prostate Cancer UK summit offered a national platform to display the above results carried out in St George’s and emphasised the importance of the implementation of the above multidisciplinary work for men with metastatic prostate cancer.
