St George’s will feature in the brand-new series of Emergency airing on Channel 4 at 9pm tonight (Monday 12 August).

Over four episodes, filmed 24/7 across two of the busiest weeks in summer 2022, the series takes a closer look at London’s Major Trauma Network.

It follows the minute-by-minute decisions from roadside critical interventions through resus to ICU and from surgery to rehabilitation to reflect the variety of specialist treatment that goes into saving patients’ lives and putting them back together again.

The network provides a safety net for 10 million people in London, treating 12,000 people with the most serious injuries each year. Over the last five years, the system has improved survival rates for major trauma patients by 50% – saving an estimated 610 lives.

Dr Anthony Hudson, Clinical Director for Major Trauma at St George’s, said: “This series provides an excellent opportunity for St George’s to demonstrate its work as part of the Major Trauma Network in London.

“It offers a unique insight into how all the organisations work together to do the best for patients across London and further afield from injury through to treatment and onto recovery. It makes fascinating television and I’m looking forward to watching it!”

St George’s is one of the four Major Trauma Centres in London featured, alongside King’s College, St Mary’s and The Royal London hospitals as well as London’s Air Ambulance, London Ambulance Service and trauma units.

The series will run consecutively Monday 12 – Thursday 15 August on Channel 4 at 9pm.
