More than 100 members attended St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust’s first governor information session on Tuesday 8th February, chaired by non-executive director Moira Nangle. This was the first in a series of sessions aimed at explaining the role of a foundation trust governor those members who have expressed an interest in standing for election.

Moira Nangle said: “The council of governors will play a crucial role, representing the membership and acting as a critical friend to the board of directors. The enthusiasm we have had so far from over 500 members who have expressed an interest in standing for election to the council of governors is truly heartening and is testament to the work of St George’s”.

Member Shereen Sadiq from Catford who attended the event said: “As a patient I have appreciated the care and support from staff at St George’s Hospital and the Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Centre. I am keen to be in a position to be able to give something back to St George’s Healthcare. It was interesting to hear about the role that a foundation trust governor can play and to learn how the council of governors can help St George’s to better understand the needs of their patients and their local community.”

More governor information sessions are planned in the coming months. Visit the foundation trust section of the trust’s website for details and to download the governor information pack.
