Two nominations from St George’s, Epsom and St Helier Hospital Group have been shortlisted in The 2023 NHS Parliamentary Awards. Charmaine Angela Case a Breast Screening Clinical Nurse Specialist was shortlisted as an individual for Lifetime Achievement, while the St George’s Emergency Department & Homelessness Team was shortlisted for The Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care Award.

The awards launched five years ago recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution of staff and volunteers working in the health and care sector, with nominations submitted by MPs.  We worked with local MPs to put forward the following nominations:

  • The Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care Award, St George’s Hospital Emergency Department & Homelessness Team
  • The Health Equalities Award, The Maternity Cultural Transformation Team, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust
  • The Excellence in Primary Care and Community Care Award, Care Home Support Team, Sutton Health and Care
  • The Excellence in Healthcare Award, Improvement Faculty, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust)
  • NHS Volunteer Award,  Mike Sims, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • The Lifetime Achievement Award, Charmaine Angela Case, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • The Future NHS Award and The Excellence in Primary Care and Community Care Award, St George’s Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy team

The Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care Award, St George’s Emergency Department & Homelessness Team

St George’s ED team have demonstrated responsiveness and effectiveness in the face of pressures during and after Covid, providing excellent 4-hour performance, and high standards of care and safety. Our Homelessness Inclusion Service is exemplary, having helped >300 patients resulting in an 85% reduction in those returning to rough sleeping.

The Lifetime Achievement Award, Charmaine Angela Case

I started my student nursing in 1983, I currently work as a Breast Screening Clinical Nurse Specialist at the SW London Breast Screening Unit. I previously worked as a Macmillan Breast CNS for 15 years. I am proud to be the President of the Nurses Association of Jamaica (UK) providing pastoral support to newly recruited overseas nurses from Jamaica to the UK.
