On 22 October, St Georges Hospital warmly welcomed over 270 delegates to the 2nd annual Midwifery conference entitled ‘Physiological Birth: Promoting Normality.’

Supporting every woman to have an optimal birth within a system of expert maternity care is something which midwives are dedicated to. Jodette Holly is a passionate St George’s midwife whose vision is that health professionals create strong and unified networks through learning and sharing, which in turn supports and nurtures the physiological birth process.

The Physiological Birth Conference, led by Jodette, certainly showcased this vision in abundance! The fantastic line-up of eminent, international conference speakers included Professor Hannah Dalen from Australia, whose seminar on ‘Fear – the enemy of birth’ was both powerful and insightful.

Other presenters included Sheena Byrom OBE, Dr Amali Lokugame, Professor Denis Walsh and St Georges Midwife Jenny Geyer. We were delighted that Cathy Warwick and Professor Lesley Page from the Royal College of Midwives were also present.

The conference was a huge success, allowing the opportunity to celebrate midwifery, women and birth through the sharing of inspirational, blue-sky thinking. The conference also coincides with the commencement of two new Consultant Midwives at St Georges, who will further champion the promotion of optimum birthing for every mother.
