Are you a registered nurse with a passion for providing high quality and innovative care? Come and join our ambitious and progressive team at an exciting time of expansion for the cardiovascular directorate at St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust.

We are developing a pioneering 17-bed cardiology heart failure unit with dedicated high dependency beds which is the first of its type in the United Kingdom and Europe! The unit will offer an exciting variety of patient management including those with acute decompensated heart failure requiring non-invasive ventilation or ultrafiltration, those with new or chronic heart failure who require device therapy, in addition to those post myocardial infarction and those who may be at the end stage of their heart failure. The unit will be in place by March 2015 and will lead the way to further expansion by March 2016.

We have an excellent and dedicated Heart Failure resource within the trust including two heart failure consultants and three in-hospital heart failure nurses, in addition to four community heart failure nurses based in the borough of Wandsworth. This breadth of experience and knowledge will ensure you have the opportunity and support to understand the complete patient journey and will provide the springboard for development opportunities such as following the career pathway towards being an advanced nurse practitioner.

A full programme of training and support will underpin your development within the team. The cardiothoracic unit has a structured teaching programme for staff and the practice development nurse will provide support for competency based development including venepuncture, cannulation, advanced life support, defibrillation, non-invasive ventilation, management of arterial lines, arterial blood gas monitoring and more. In addition, our links with the University of London and Kingston University enable access to specialist modules such as 12 Lead ECG Interpretation, arrhythmia’s and acute cardiac care module and we are discussing the provision of a heart failure management module also.

We are looking for passionate and skilled staff to fill the following roles:
Senior Sister Band 7 (£36,917 – £46,837 inc HCAS p/a) nurse with evidence of leadership experience and of managing acute heart failure patients as described above.
Senior Staff Nurses Band 6 (£30,940 – £40,809 inc HCAS p/a) nurses with experience of managing acute and chronic heart failure patients, evidence of having worked in an acute setting. HDU or CCU environment would also be an advantage.
Staff Nurses Band 5 (£25,774 – £33,481 inc HCAS p/a) nurses with some knowledge or experience of cardiology or heart failure nursing would be an advantage but not essential as further training can be provided.
