Dr Bernard Ho, a St George’s Dermatology and Lymphoedema Consultant has been awarded the 2024 Quality in Care Award for Psychological Impact of Skin Disease, for his groundbreaking work through our innovative Skin and Mind Clinic.

Since its inception in 2022, Dr Ho has led the bi-weekly clinic, providing life-changing support for the local community. The clinic’s profound impact is already evident, with successful service audits in both its first and second years.

The clinic’s work has reshaped how patients receive holistic care, addressing both the physical and mental impact of skin conditions.

Dr Ho’s relentless efforts, bolstered by a dynamic team of fellow St George’s experts—Dr Motaz Sonbol, Dr Julia Topp, Dr Reem Farag, Dr Kah Lok Chan, Dr Nitish Herkanaidu, Dr Georgina Beechey, and the Liaison Psychiatry team — have brought this unique service to life. Together, they’ve proven that addressing the psychological toll of skin disease is not just important, but essential.

Judges praised Dr Ho as “a worthy winner,” noting that the Skin and Mind Clinic fills a critical gap in care. They highlighted its reproducibility and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from both patients and clinicians.
