Clinical interests
Professor Lewis' main interests are in the study of infectious diseases, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
Professional profile
Professor Lewis qualified in 1983 from the University of Wales. After gaining membership to the Royal College of Physicians (UK) he undertook postgraduate training at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he earned an MSc in Medical Microbiology and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (1988).
Subsequently, Professor Lewis was appointed senior lecturer and honorary consultant physician at St George's, having graduated with an MD in 1994.
He participates in the consultant rota for inpatients on the clinical infection unit and referrals. He runs a general infectious diseases clinic, seeing new and follow-up patients with tuberculosis, suspected infections, returning travellers, fevers of unknown origin and ward discharges.
His research interest are the immunology of infection, vaccines and clinical trails of new vaccinations.
