Dr Matthias Klammer

Clinical interests

Dr Klammer is a Consultant Haematologist with an interest in Haemato-Oncology. He has particular interest in Acute Leukaemia and Stem Cell Transplant.

Professional profile

Dr. Klammer commenced undergraduate studies in Medicine in Berlin (FU Berlin), before being awarded a German Government scholarship to St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London for clinical studies. He graduated in Medicine in1992.

He pursued his postgraduate career in Internal Medicine and Haematology in the United Kingdom and underwent specialist training in Haematology in Manchester (Christie’s Hospital) and Edinburgh/South East Scotland.

Dr. Klammer gained experience in Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation through clinical work undertaken at Christie’s Hospital and Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital, before a Visiting Fellowship to Beth Israel Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Institute Boston, Massachusetts and experience as Transplant Coordinator at Hammersmith Hospital/Imperial College, London

After completion of specialist training he worked as a Consultant Haematologist with special interest in Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies in Bristol (UK) and since 2010 at St. George’s Hospital, London.

His academic interests lie in the field of Tumor Vaccines and other cellular and immune therapies for haematological malignancies.

For his Medical Doctorate he undertook a phase I/II clinical study of Autologous Dendritic-like Leukaemia Cells for treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and exploration of other vaccine constructs with a Study Group established in Edinburgh. Current academic interests also include the study of immune reconstitution after stem cell transplantation and opportunities for immune-modulatory interventions pre-and post-transplant.
