All adult critical care areas in the hospital are busy. However, we should see ourselves as a learning organisation and we should take every opportunity to teach and learn so long as patient care is at the centre of what we do.

We have 3 scheduled formal teaching sessions during the week:

Mortality and Morbidity: 0820 Wednesday

GICU teaching topics: 0820 Thursday

Journal Club: 0820 Friday

In addition there are monthly teaching afternoons for medical staff. Trainees and fellows on the first tier rota attend at 1400 on the last Wednesday of each month and those on the second tier rota attend at 1400 on the second Wednesday each month. We aim to cover a good range of the ICM curriculum over six months. Teaching sessions are ‘bleep free’.

Research and other meetings are held in the evenings.
